DATA DRIVEN JOURNALISM FLYER-01.jpg

In a world where misinformation is rife and access to quality healthcare is uneven, the role of journalists in shaping public understanding of health issues has never been more critical.

This one-day intensive training by The Radio Masterclass is designed specifically for mid-career radio journalists and audio storytellers seeking to sharpen their skills in community-focused health reporting and data-driven storytelling.

The workshop will deliver hands-on, practical training to help radio professionals dig deeper, ask better questions, and tell stories that truly resonate with—and impact—the communities they serve.

Why This Training Is Needed:

Many communities across Nigeria are underserved when it comes to health information. Radio remains the most powerful tool for reaching the grassroots, but too often, health reporting on air lacks depth, context, and a focus on real community concerns.

Moreover, data, when properly harnessed, can help journalists tell richer, more accurate stories. Yet, many journalists still struggle with understanding and applying data in their day-to-day reporting.

This workshop bridges the gap between community-driven health narratives and data literacy, empowering participants to produce stories that not only inform but also drive change.

What You Will Gain:

  •  Improved skills in health journalism, with a focus on community relevance and impact

  • Practical tools for sourcing and interpreting health data relevant to local audiences

  •  Story framing techniques to bring human interest and data together seamlessly

  • Field-tested methods for simplifying complex health topics for mass audience comprehension

  • Ethical guidelines and verification techniques for reporting on sensitive health issues

  • Interactive exercises, group work, and real-world case studies from Nigerian and African contexts

  • Networking opportunities with experienced facilitators and fellow professionals

  • Certificate of Participation awarded upon completion

Who Should Attend:

This training is tailored for mid-level radio professionals with at least 3 - 4 years of radio experience, including reporters, producers, presenters, and audio content creators who want to level up their skills in public interest reporting.
