Radio Broadcasters; Check These 3 Things Before You Take That Job!

ree

When you're chasing that next big break in radio—whether it's an on-air gig or a producer role; it’s tempting to just focus on impressing your potential employer. But pay attention; you should be interviewing them just as much as they’re interviewing you.

One of the most important things you should look out for in a potentional employer is the company culture.

So how do you find out?

1. Do your recon. Before your interview, search the station or media company on X (Twitter), Facebook, LinkedIn, or even Glassdoor. What are their ex-employees saying?

2. Pay attention to their behavior.

  • How were you treated during the interview process?

  • Did they keep to scheduled times or ghost you halfway through?

  • Did their email tone seem respectful and enthusiastic—or rushed and cold?

These are all signs of how they operate internally.

3. Ask better questions during the interview.

  • Why did the last person leave this role?

  • When was the last time someone got promoted internally?

  • What’s your favourite and least favourite thing about working here?

  • What’s something someone got fired for recently?

  • How long has your longest team member worked here?

  • What’s the most common reason people leave this place?

If they hesitate or refuse to answer any of these? That tells you everything you need to know.

Finally, In radio, culture matters. A toxic team or disorganized leadership can suck the joy out of even your dream job. So take control of your future—ask the right questions, and trust the answers and the silences.
