Calling Radio Journalists and Editors: Tell Us What Support You Need

Radio journalism is operating in a far more demanding environment than it was even a few years ago.

Journalists are now working in an environment where information moves instantly, misinformation travels widely, competition for attention is relentless, and audiences expect more than headlines and studio conversations. They want clarity, speed, depth, accountability, and connection.

This means radio professionals must now do much more than traditional broadcasting. They must know how to verify information quickly, adapt stories across platforms, understand changing audience behaviour, and produce journalism that remains trusted in an increasingly noisy media environment.

That is why upskilling is no longer optional. It is central to whether radio stations can remain relevant, credible, and impactful. For journalists, editors, and managers, the question is no longer whether the industry has changed. It has. The real question is whether our skills, newsroom practices, and training efforts are changing with it.

At The Radio Masterclass, this is why we are placing a deliberate focus this year on training and capacity development. This is the heart of why we exist. We have always believed in strengthening radio journalism by equipping professionals with the tools, knowledge, and confidence they need to do meaningful work and adapt to a changing media landscape.

As we begin to shape a new phase of training for radio stations across Africa, with a particular focus on West Africa, Nigeria, and Ghana, we want to ensure that what we develop responds to real newsroom needs. We do not want to make assumptions. We want to hear directly from the people doing the work.

We are therefore inviting radio journalists, editors, and station managers to complete this survey and share the areas where you believe your stations and teams need further training and support. Your input will help us identify the most relevant skills gaps and design training programmes that are practical, timely, and genuinely useful.

We would appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to fill out the survey and share your perspective.

Thank you.
